Description

In 1317, Lady Lucy, who is thirteen years old, lives in huge stone castle.  Her father, Baron Geoffrey, has decided to wed her to a rich lord.  But Lady Lucy has other plans.  She is determined not to be forced into an arranged marriage.  She tells her governess, Dame Agnes, "I will only marry for love."

Lucy falls in love that very day when she is rescued from drowning in Frog Stream by a handsome peasant named Peter. The adventures of Lucy's heart unfold on a background of lavish banquets and feasts, jousting matches, dubbing ceremonies, and merry market days and fairs.  The tension increases as Lady Lucy is kidnapped and held ransom by three greedy scroundrels desperate for jewels and other riches.

The story culminates when Lucy's uncle, Lord Richard, and his brave son, Sir Thomas, fight a fierce battle against Boniface, a ruthless lord hungry to take over their castle.  Will Peter prove himself worthy to be a knight - and to win the hand of Lucy?

Lucy's story is full of details about Medieval days, including what people wore and ate, how boys became knights, how battles were fought, what the role of women was, what a castle was really like, and why lords held so much power.  But the main conflict is about the tradition of the time - arranged marriages - and Lady Lucy finding her own knight in shining armor, despite what tradition says!
