DNA Press has just published “The Bone Race, A Quest for Dinosaur Fossils” – a fast-paced historical action-adventure that takes

The DNA Press/Nartea Publishing team is pleased to announce the publication of “The Bone Race, A Quest for Dinosaur Fossils” (ISBN: 1933255307) by Steve Butz. The novel begins with a bizarre dream where flaming dinosaur skeletons come alive and foreshadow the destruction of a prehistoric museum by crooked politicians in New York’s Central Park. This leads peculiar business mogul, J Andrew Nagel, to sponsor a contest to help him assemble the world’s greatest collection of dinosaur bones to combat what he deems to be a direct assault on science itself. The violent ruin of Central Park’s Paleozoic Museum by the notorious Boss Tweed’s political machine sets the stage for Nagel’s unique contest. Adventure and deceit follows the competition to win the challenge in “The Bone Race, A Quest for Dinosaur Fossils” which is set in 1871 during the early days of American paleontology. Non-stop action and intrigue follows the individual quests of the main characters as they go off in search of the fossilized remains of dinosaurs and attempt to claim the $500,000 prize offered by Nagel. In order to win the Bone Race, a complete dinosaur skeleton must be returned to the new museum that he is building in New York by the allotted day, which ends the contest. Some of the characters in the novel include an evil ex-confederate army officer, a gregarious circus owner, an intelligent woman paleontologist from England, two fiercely competitive university professors, a Chinese underworld boss, an Oglalla-Sioux Indian chief, and an amateur bone digger who uses a Civil War observation balloon to aid his excavations. “The Bone Race, A Quest for Dinosaur Fossils” is a unique book because it is the first of its kind to be set amongst the fascinating and colorful period of American paleontology when dinosaur mania began to take hold in America. Parts of the story were inspired by real historical events, and the afterword of the book offers a true account of the people and events that some of the characters and situations presented in the story were based on, along with the real contributions they made to the science of paleontology.

“The Bone Race, A Quest for Dinosaur Fossils” by Steve Butz is written to appeal to readers, both young and old, who have an interest in dinosaurs and enjoy fun, fast paced adventure novels. Readers who like science and historical fiction would also find this book appealing. The author received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Cornell University, and has written numerous books on the subjects of science, technology, and history including “Shall the Murderer Go Unpunished! The Life of Edward H. Rulloff, New York’s Criminal Genius” published by North Country Books, and “Science of Earth Systems” published by Delmar/Thomson Learning.
