DNA Press publishes The King’s Challenge — Book One of Cristo’s Chronicles (ISBN13: 9781933255323)
September 11, 2007
Today, DNA Press announced the publishing of The King’s Challenge, Book One of Cristo’s Chronicles, (ISBN13: 9781933255323) by Anthony J. Mirarchi of Titusville, PA, for children ages 7-15. The King’s Challenge is unique in its ability to illuminate how the genius minds of this Bronze Age society overcome the huge barriers of recording their observations without a counting system or a writing system, within the framework of a thoroughly entertaining, compulsively readable page-turner.
Set in an ancient time, featuring two competing wizards, and turning on the deeds of two brave young boys, this book provides all the adventure of a fantasy novel but pushes magic completely out of the picture, replacing it with the real conditions of the Bronze Age and fact-based conjecture about the earliest human scientists.
"This book was fascinating! 5 stars. The more I think about how strange it would be to not to be able to account for time, and how hard it would be to figure out how to start, the more impressed I am by this book!” writes the reviewer at www.TeensReadToo.com
When King Adolphus challenges the wise men of his kingdom to learn about the seasons, our young hero, Cristo, sees an opportunity to learn new things and provide service to the King. He cannot, however, count on magic to aid him as he faces the challenges that beset him.
“This story emphasizes using the power of the mind to unravel the secrets of nature and having the courage to believe that right will overcome wrong,” says author Mr. Mirarchi, who is represented by The Leo Media & Entertainment Group of London. “Cristo teams up with Lord Allard to accept The King’s Challenge to discover the cycle of the seasons and determine the time of day. I wanted to fictionally recreate the process of calendar invention in the Bronze Age through the character of Cristo.”
Foul play heightens the action when Duke Nextor enlists his wizard, Boltair, to deter Allard’s efforts. Boltair sends a spy, Grigor, to report back to him on any progress Allard is making. Cristo befriends Grigor and unknowingly turns him against Boltair. Frustrated with no report from Grigor, Boltair kidnaps Cristo and Grigor to learn Allard’s secrets, but they escape, surviving a dangerous journey over the mountains returning home in time to help Allard make a rudimentary calendar that can be used by all the people.
