DNA Press publishes Vigil's End - Book One of the Ninth Day of Man
September 1, 2005
DNA Press announces the future end of ALL life on Earth-and the greatest adventure of Humankind, in publishing the epic scale, science-fiction adventure novel, "Vigil's End - Book One of the Ninth Day of Man", by Grant Macaw.
An intelligently written drama about us all of us, in a gripping, engaging and entertaining tale of the future that is absolutely relevant to today in its underlying story theme-who are we-- why are we here-- what is our destiny in the Universe?
Today, DNA Press is pleased to announce the
publishing of the first work of a planned, epic scale trilogy, Vigil's
End - Book One of the Ninth Day of Man, by a gifted, serious
story-teller, Grant Macaw. Vigil's End is a merge of adventure,
drama, and science fiction at its best-a 'crossover' future human drama
for all thoughtful readers from 13 to 90. It is compelling in its human
scale story of a catastrophically wounded Earth and of whether a
perished Mankind may somehow yet have a 'ninth day' in an eight hundred
year future world.
Grant Macaw, creator of Vigil's End is candid in the test it posed to
him: "I began to write Vigil's End first as a writer's
challenge-what kind of story can you possibly tell if it begins 600
years after our World and all of us in it are destroyed? As the
story developed I knew I was on an adventure of my own, to explore my
own thinking about the Universe, about future bio-technology, science
and invention-and about us, all of us. Each of us should find our
own way through such an adventure, and I have sought to leave the path
open for each reader's own imagination and reflection to complete the
tale of Vigil's End--- which surprised me with its own ending, even as
I wrote it."
"Grant's background, first as a military intelligence officer and then
as a strategic planning and business and space operations and
technology consultant, has required critical thinking and analysis of
complex and abstract topics, and this is evident in his highly
inventive and entertaining story", said Alexander Kuklin, Ph.D.,
Managing Editor at DNA Press. "Here at DNA Press, we strive to
publish quality fiction for all age groups, with intriguing
explorations of future science and human development, and Grant has
given readers both in Vigil's End, and in setting the stage for equally
compelling stories in the planned full trilogy series."
Grant Macaw's personal background is also interesting. He was a
military intelligence officer, achieving the rank of Colonel across a
career that saw tours in the Pacific and European theaters, from
vintage propeller aircraft units performing at the end of the Viet Nam
conflict, to national intelligence agency tours at the end of the Cold
War, to major command assignments during the exponential growth of
space systems support to national defense. He is the recipient of
the Legion of Merit medal, the Bronze Star medal, the Defense
Meritorious Service medal, and the Air Force Meritorious Service and
Air Force Commendation medals. Grant obtained an undergraduate
degree with Academic Honors from the California State University,
Sacramento, a Masters Degree in Government Administration from the
George Washington University, is a Distinguished Graduate of the Air
University Air War College, and is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi
National Honor Society.
DNA Press believes Vigil's End has great merit as a literary level
science fiction read, and will be extremely well received by both boys
and girls alike, not to mention parents, teachers and librarians
seeking quality fiction offerings.
